Strategic Principles:

We believe that people are the primary actors in their survival and development. We promote and work for social justice, gender equality & equity, especially among the poor and the marginalized. We work and celebrate without discrimination diversity, both within the communities we work with and also between staff of JADEF. We too, promote partnerships, people own responsibility, empower them to create sustainable positive change.

Planning and Decision making

Our work is done through participatory planning and decision making, ensuring that effective delegation is encouraged, program planning and stakeholder participation is enhanced. Capacity building of beneficiaries through tailored workshops, mentoring, coaching and farm field school demonstrations done.

Target Groups

For Programs: Our primary target groups are the indigenous people and communities in our geographical thrust areas. All categories of marginalized and disadvantaged, gender- based vulnerable groups; including among others Women-young mothers, widows ,disabled in one way or another, HIV positive ; unemployed and school dropout youth-boys and girls mainly 5-24 years of age, OVCs and Child Headed Households and their families and communities and smallholder farmers.

Cross-cutting Issues

The following are the main cross cutting issues handled: Gender equality and integration, mainstreaming, Environmental Sustainability, Cultural Freedoms; Coalition Building, maternal child health and HIV and AIDS. Others include Community involvement and participation in community development agenda for mutual benefits.

For Advocacy: We advocate for the promotion of gender equality, children’s rights, accountable governance policies and practices that enhance non-discrimination and reduce further vulnerabilities to the disadvantaged. We also advocate for peoples’ legitimate economic, social, cultural as well as group rights.

Human Resources

There is Human Resource Policy outlining Terms of Employment, recruitment, Payment processes, Staff development and other personnel policies, Performance Appraisal and Feedback.

The organization has sufficient technical, managerial and support staff; with reasonable mastery of financial management, project design and implementation. JADEF also enjoys regular support from Volunteers and Interns who are on Industrial Placements throughout the year. These Interns are from Universities and other Tertiary Institutions within and outside Uganda

Financial Management:

We treasure the value of sound financial management and controls. In this regard there is Finance Manual detailing key aspects of financial management such as cash management, budgeting and budgetary management, asset management, banking, audits, staffing, financial reporting, fraud detection and control, investment, resource mobilization and utilization. The staffs are qualified with financial management skills.

Partnership and Networking

Functional partnerships have been developed and are growing. Some partnerships are long term, short term as well as adhoc. Whichever type, will depend on terms of reference. Key partners are Development Partners, National, District and Lower Local Governments, Civil Society Organizations, Community based Organizations, Faith based Institutions, and a host of disadvantaged interest groups.


JADEF is governed by a policy Board of Directors (BoD) that provides overall guidance and oversight to the Organization. Its current 7 members of BoD are represented by personalities with economic, academic, educational, health, religious and civil society training and experience.
